This policy explains what information berksbeat.com collects and how it’s used. We keep it in plain language because that’s the whole point of this site.
What we collect
Analytics. We use Google Analytics and may use other analytics services to understand how the site is used: pages visited, time on page, referring sites, approximate location, browser and device type. Google Analytics uses cookies and collects data under Google’s privacy policy. You can opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
Newsletter. If you subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address and use it to send you the newsletter. Our email service provider processes subscriber data on our behalf. Every issue includes an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes you from the list. We don’t sell or rent the subscriber list.
Email you send us. If you email us a correction, tip, or question, we keep the correspondence so we can respond and follow up.
Advertising data. If we display advertising, our advertising partners (such as Google AdSense or similar networks) may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads, measure their performance, and in some cases personalize them based on your visits to this and other sites. These partners collect data under their own privacy policies. Where personalized ads are shown, you can adjust your preferences through Google’s Ads Settings or opt out of many partners’ interest-based advertising at aboutads.info/choices.
Cookies
The site uses cookies for analytics and, if advertising is running, for ad delivery and measurement. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site’s content works without them. Where required by law, we present a consent notice before setting non-essential cookies.
Social media
We may maintain profiles on social media platforms and embed social content or share buttons on the site. If you interact with those platforms, their privacy policies apply. Embedded content from other sites behaves as if you visited that site directly.
What we don’t do
- No user accounts on the site itself, so no passwords or profiles stored by us
- We don’t sell your personal information
- We don’t collect more than the site and its services need to function
Third parties
The site is hosted on Vercel, which processes standard server logs (IP addresses, request data) to deliver pages. Analytics, advertising, and email providers listed above process data as described in their own policies. Links to other websites, including berkspa.gov and local news outlets, take you to sites governed by their own policies.
Data requests
To ask what information we have about you or to request deletion, email hello@berksbeat.com. For data held by our providers (Google Analytics, ad networks, the email service), we’ll point you to the right opt-out or handle the request where the data is under our control, such as the newsletter list.
Children
The site is general-audience local news. We don’t knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes
We’ll update this policy as the site evolves, for example when we add new services or advertising partners. The date above reflects the latest version, and material changes will be noted here.
