About The Berks Beat
Government coverage you can follow
Berks County government makes decisions every week that affect your taxes, your roads, your property, and your services. The records are public, but they live in long agendas, dense PDFs, and meetings most people can’t attend at 10 a.m. on a Thursday. The Berks Beat reads those documents and reports what they mean.
What we publish
Meeting coverage. A preview before each Board of Commissioners meeting explaining what’s on the agenda and why it matters, and a recap after explaining what passed, what didn’t, and what happens next.
Reports. Data-driven pieces on county spending, budgets, contracts, and long-running issues.
Guides. Practical explainers on getting things done with county government: looking up your assessment, appealing your taxes, getting a deed copy, registering to vote.
Opinions. Occasional editorials on what should change, clearly labeled as opinion.
How we work
The Berks Beat is produced with AI. Our system reads official county sources every day, including meeting agendas, minutes, budget documents, and public notices, and drafts coverage directly from those primary documents. A human publisher oversees the site, sets editorial direction, and reviews coverage regularly.
Every article links to the documents it’s based on. We do this so you never have to take our word for anything: click through and read the source yourself.
When another local outlet reports something first, we say so and link to them. Our job is reading the official record, not repackaging other people’s reporting.
Corrections
We correct errors promptly and note the correction on the article. If you spot one, email corrections@berksbeat.com.
Independence
The Berks Beat is an independent publication. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or produced by the County of Berks. We do not accept advertising or sponsorship from vendors seeking county contracts. For official county information, visit berkspa.gov.
The fine print
The Berks Beat provides general information, not legal, tax, or financial advice. Fees, deadlines, and procedures change. Confirm details with the relevant county office before acting on anything you read here. See our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
